Wonderware System Platform controls and reports the water supply and sewerage of the city of Vaasa

Wonderware System Platform serves as the automation and reporting system for the water supply and sewerage of the city of Vaasa. System Platform offered good support for quick project management and also allows a firmly functioning decentralized architecture in which different ways of transfering data and controling devices by different suppliers is used.

Vaasan Vesi manages the water supply, incl. acquisition, cleaning and distribution of water, as well as the water sewerage and waste water treatment of 60.000 inhabitants in the city of Vaasa at the municipality area of 400 km². The automation system of the water supply system of the city was decided to be rebuilt at the early 2000s. An exploratory study on the exchange of the automation system of the water works of Vaasan Vesi and the refinery of the Pått area was initiated. Engineering company Avecon Oy was chosen to carry out the exploratory study and the project itself.

The advantages of the new system include reliability, functionality, clear control and reporting. The decentralised  network structure and the capability to store large amounts of information allow high system availability and capability for future expansion

Goals

Challenges

  • Meet the demand of the customer that no shutdown occur during the upgrade from the existing to the new system;
